The Following is the Text of
a Real Estate Scam
I am posting it here to help others foil criminal activity.
This scam below claims that Global Link
will send the land lord a check for the deposit and first month’s rent. The check will be forged or otherwise bad.
“George” will then request some or all of the money back, for some reason. I do
not know the reason, since I only got to the second email before I identified
this as a scam. If the victim sends a check to “George”, it will be lost money
since the bank will deduct the amount of the bad check from the victim’s
account. The reason this scam may work is that the victim does not allow enough
time for the check to clear. It is feasible that the bank may not discover the
fraud for several weeks, so refunds in unusual situtations
should not be made for at least a month and maybe longer.
A related question is: Why is Yahoo so tolerant
of scam operators using Yahoo email?
